Healthy koi may appear to swim lazily around the pond. They will readily gather around you during feeding time, pushing their heads through the surface of the water. If temperatures are mild to warm, they tend to be more energetic.

Caring for koi. Koi are cold-water fish but thrive in water temperatures between 59-77 degrees Fahrenheit. While regular white vinegar is acidic and will lower the pH of pond water, it is not safe to use in a pond stocked with fish. The vinegar would lower the pH, but it would likely kill the koi fish as well. The ideal pH for a koi pond is 7.5, which is slightly alkaline.

Vinegar is acceptable to use for killing algae and cleaning a pond when it is drained. The acidic is good at lifting away the stubborn algae deposits and stains without damaging the liner material. How Often to Feed your Koi Fish. We recommend that you feed your fish once a day. This will provide enough nutrients for healthy fish and a healthy pond. Feeding them too often can put an excess amount of nutrients into your pond which can cause algae issues.
