Dak Prescott picked up right where he left off vs. Bucs. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, so did they. Cowboys’ struggles when Dak throws 50-plus passes – TAMPA, Fla. — On top of all the other challenges the Cowboys faced Thursday night — beating a Super Bowl champion on its home turf, winning on a night where Tom Brady threw four touchdown passes, overcoming their own erratic kicker — Dallas added one more to the list. And it was a surprise addition. Winning when Dak Prescott throws more than 50 passes. Any thoughts that its $40 million-a-year man would tiptoe back into battle were dismissed quickly as Prescott matched his career high with 58 passes for 403 yards, but it was not quite enough in a 31-29 loss to the Buccaneers. Prescott actually guided Dallas into the lead in the final two minutes, a huge 31-yard pass on third-and-11 to CeeDee Lamb making it possible for Greg Zuerlein — who had a rough night — to hit a 48-yard field goal for the lead with 1:24 to play. But Brady, whose final numbers — 32-for-50, 379 yards, four touchdowns — would make for a legendary opener if he hadn’t done this so many times already, drove Tampa Bay right back into scoring territory.

Ezekiel Elliott #21 of the Dallas Cowboys (Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images) Last season was, by far, the worst of Ezekiel Elliott‘s five-year NFL career. The Dallas Cowboys‘ running back posted career-lows in rushing yards (979), yards per carry (4. 0), average rushing yards per game (65. 3), and total touchdowns (8). Elliott finish 2020 ranked outside the top ten of the league’s best running backs, ranking 11th in total rushing yards. Unfortunately, Zeke is tied for second with the New Orleans Saints’ Alvin Kamara when it comes to the top salaries for NFL running backs, averaging $15 million per year. Only the Carolina Panthers’ Christian McCaffrey makes more, averaging just over $16 million a season. That hefty price tag comes with hefty expectations from Cowboy fans. And while injuries at quarterback and along the offensive line didn’t aid in his efforts, Elliott was often his own worst enemy. The former first-rounder tied a career-high with six fumbles in 2020. Elliott led all NFL running backs in that category, fumbling five times while rushing and once as a receiver.

Dak was the youngest of Peggy Prescott’s three children. While she worked as a manager of a truck stop, Prescott attended Haughton High School in Haughton, Louisiana, where he played football for the Buccaneers. As a senior, he completed 159-of-258 passes for 2,860 yards and 39 touchdowns. He also rushed for 951 yards on 90 attempts with 17 touchdowns, and led Haughton to become 2010 District 1-AAAA Champions. Peggy had colon cancer and died on November 3, 2013.
Through 4 Seasons As a Starter, How Does Dak Prescott Match Up With Other Great Dallas Cowboys Quarterbacks?
Dak Prescott has played four seasons as the starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys. How do his stats match up against the Cowboys’ all-time greats?
The Cowboys missed out on the NFL postseason in 2019, posting a disappointing 8-8 record and finishing a game back of the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East title. Despite the lackluster finish to the season, Dak Prescott had another solid season in Big D, throwing for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns, both career highs, for the league’s most potent offense.
Dak Prescott leads the way in total passing yards but not in per-game average
First off, we must look at what seasons we’re talking about here. For Dak Prescott, it’s obviously the last four seasons, 2016-2019. For Roger Staubach, we’ll be using the 1971 season, his first year as a starter, and then 1973-1975. Staubach missed most of the 1972 season with an injury. For Troy Aikman, it’ll be 1989-1992 (it must be noted that some of those early Aikman Dallas teams were really bad). As for Tony Romo, we’ll be using 2006 (he took over as the starter in his third year in the league) through 2009.
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott: Would swap historic numbers for wins
Top Stories – October 4, 2020, 10:39 PM4 min readARLINGTON, Texas — In his past two games, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has 974 passing yards, the most over a two-game span in NFL history. The Cowboys lost both games, including Sunday to the Cleveland Browns, 49-38, at AT&T Stadium to fall to a disappointing 1-3 on the season. “Not at all,” said Prescott, when asked if the passing record mattered to him. “I’d give all those yards back for a different record. I care about one stat and that’s to win, so when we don’t do that no other stats matter. “In his past three games, Prescott, who is playing on the $31. 4 million franchise tag, has thrown for 1,424 yards, the most over a three-game span in NFL history. At least the Cowboys were able to pull off an improbable 40-39 win against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 when Prescott became the first quarterback in league history to throw for at least 450 yards and rush for three scores in the same game. In the Cowboys’ loss to the Browns, Prescott had career highs in yards (502) and attempts (58), and his 41 completions were the second most he has had in a game.
June 14, 2021 – Ezekiel Elliott had the worse season of his career in 2020. He posted career lows in rushing yards (979), yards per rush (4.0), and yards per game (65.3).
Elliott hasn’t been grinding by himself this offseason though. His backup, Tony Pollard, has been in the trenches with him as he looks to rejuvenate his career, and the former Memphis Tiger mentioned recently that Elliott has had a razor-sharp focus while preparing for the 2021 season.
What do you think?
The three-time Pro Bowl selection had a plethora of things that assisted in his only down season in the NFL. Prescott missed 11 games which allowed teams to focus more on Elliott with no real threat from the other three quarterbacks that took snaps last season. Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, and La’el Collins missed 36 games combined and the Cowboys spent the entire 2020 season patching together offensive lines, which didn’t allow much continuity to ensue among the unit as a whole.

Elliott fumbles pair, Cowboys stumble in 38-10 loss to Cards
If the Dallas Cowboys are going to win without Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott will have to hang on to the ball.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — If the Dallas Cowboys are going to win without Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott will have to hang on to the ball. Elliott lost two fumbles in the same game for the first time in his career and was benched briefly, Andy Dalton threw two interceptions in his first start filling in for the injured Prescott, and the Cowboys never had a chance in a 38-10 loss to Arizona on Monday night. While Dalton’s interceptions added to the club’s NFL-worst turnover margin of minus-12, Elliott’s miscues were the biggest because they set up the first two Arizona touchdowns, and handed the Cowboys (2-4) a deficit of at least two touchdowns for the fifth straight game. “It’s frustrating to see the pattern here, five of the six games this year,” first-year coach Mike McCarthy said. The good news for the Cowboys? They knew going in they would be in first place in the woeful NFC East no matter what happened. So what seemed like a critical three-game homestand when Dallas was 1-2 ended with two more losses, and a jump in the division standings.
Dak Prescott football Statistics on – The Stats Crew has compiled complete career football statistics for Dak Prescott.
Drafted: 2016 in Round 4, #135 overall by the Dallas CowboysDak Prescott has played from 2016 to 2021 during his career with the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott has thrown for 21,015 yards in his career, completing 1,823 of 2,748 passes with 130 touchdowns and 50 interceptions. He also has run for 1,420 yards in 296 attempts with 25 rushing touchdowns.
Dak Prescott Is Having a Historic Season—but the Cowboys Are Wasting It
The Dallas QB is on pace to set multiple NFL passing records this season. The only problem is that his team keeps losing games.
The other good news for the Cowboys is that they don’t need to do much to make the postseason. While a 1-3 record would spell doom for many squads, the NFC East is a dumpster fire, with the 1-2-1 Eagles currently in first place. FiveThirtyEight gives Dallas a 58 percent chance to make the postseason. Football Outsiders pegs those odds at 51 percent.
“Obviously with their quarterback (Mahomes), who I think is at the highest level right now because of his, frankly, as much as just his natural ability to make plays, his mobility. And this guy’s very quick and elusive and can get in and out of situations with his feet and buy time. The quarterback we played Sunday (Russell Wilson) is of that kind of nature. He’s very, has great ability to get in and out and then make the play, that play Dak made at the end of the game that got intercepted. Well the result of Dak’s ability that let him get that ball off was really great and outstanding. Well, these guys do that, have that ability a lot.
Dak Prescott by the numbers: Five mind-blowing stats that helped the Cowboys quarterback get paid
Prescott has some eye-popping stats that helped him land a massive contract.
Tied for second-most game-winning drives in first four seasons – Dak Prescott finally landed that coveted massive contract with the Dallas Cowboys, a franchise that seemingly hesitated to reach a long-term deal with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Prescott got his deal done with the Cowboys, signing a four-year, $160 million deal with $126 million guaranteed — making him the second-highest paid quarterback in NFL history. Prescott will earn an average of $42 million a season over the first three years, the highest in the first three seasons of a contract in NFL history. The $66 million signing bonus is the highest in NFL history, with a record of $75 million coming in Year One of the contract (2021). The deal was well deserved for Prescott, who has become one of the best quarterbacks in the game since entering the NFL has a fourth-round draft pick in 2016. Of the top eight quarterbacks taken in the 2016 draft, Prescott is the only one still with his team and four of the seven quarterbacks taken ahead of him are out of the NFL.Want inside access into the NFL from an active player?
